The Isle of Skye Scotland with Cimes Evasion

An adventure already under our belts

This summer, I reread the Harry Potter series and we danced nonstop to The Proclaimers with the kids. My husband still doesn't understand why... Don't tell him, but the next trip is already planned!!

You guessed it: we're heading to Scotland for a family road trip. The itinerary has been carefully planned to combine the kids' wishes with my personal favorites. And I'm sharing it with you today because I'm preparing it with as much care as if I were doing it for you.

Rent a car and get to know the road

Rent a car and get to know the road

A road trip means renting a car. After Ireland, I know that driving on the opposite side of the road takes some getting used to. This time, I promise to be more careful... and to take care of my rearview mirror. Scottish roads are narrow and winding, but every turn offers breathtaking scenery.

The ideal itinerary for families

  1. Aberdeen with Cimes Evasion

    Aberdeen, the Granite City

We will arrive in Aberdeen, nicknamed the Granite City. This will give us a chance to settle in gently, discover its silver facades, and soak up the Scottish atmosphere before heading to the Highlands.

  2. Assynt Ecosse with Cimes Evasion

Hidden spots – Sandwood Bay and Assynt

Because a road trip is also an opportunity to get a little lost, I added two detours off the beaten track.

Sandwood Bay, a huge, wild beach in the northwest, accessible only after a 7 km walk through moors and peat bogs. At the end: golden sand, cliffs, and the feeling of having reached the end of the world.

Assynt, a region of strange and isolated mountains such as Suilven and Stac Pollaidh. Almost lunar landscapes, dotted with sparkling lochs, which give Scotland an even more mysterious face.

  3. Loch Ness Ecosse with Cimes Evasion

    Loch Ness and its legends

It's impossible to miss Loch Ness. The children are already dreaming of meeting “Nessie.” Beyond the myth, it's the deep and mysterious landscapes of the lake that attract me. Here, everyone can let their imagination run wild.

  4. The Isle of Skye Scotland with Cimes Evasion

The Isle of Skye, a movie set

Next stop: the Isle of Skye, a place where time stands still. With its cliffs, waterfalls, and mountains, the scenery reminds me of my favorite worlds: Game of Thrones and Harry Potter. I can't wait to walk with the kids along the Quiraing trails or in front of the Old Man of Storr.

  5. The Glenfinnan Viaduct and the West Highland Line Scotland with Cimes Evasion

The Glenfinnan Viaduct and the West Highland Line

We will board the West Highland Line, the legendary railway line that crosses the Highlands and passes over the Glenfinnan Viaduct. For a Harry Potter fan like me, this is a must-see. The film set becomes reality, and I already know that it will be an emotional experience.

  6. Glencoe Scotland with Cimes Evasion

    Glencoe, raw emotions

In the heart of the Highlands, Glencoe is a place steeped in history and legend. Its deep valleys, often shrouded in mist, are impressively powerful. It is a setting that invites silence and contemplation.

  7. Edinburgh Scotland with Cimes Evasion

Glasgow and Edinburgh, two faces of Scotland

We'll finish with two must-see cities!

Glasgow, modern and creative, is the perfect place to immerse yourself in Scotland's contemporary energy.

Edinburgh, an elegant and mysterious capital, dominated by its castle and brought to life by its welcoming pubs. It's the ideal way to end your trip on a high note.
