Located in the heart of the Mediterranean, Mallorca is the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands. It captivates visitors with its diverse landscapes: hidden turquoise coves, fine sandy beaches, the rugged peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana, and charming villages. This island is an ideal destination for a getaway combining nature, culture, and relaxation.
Our Highlights in Mallorca
When you think of Mallorca, you instantly picture crystal-clear coves, villages with green shutters, and the gentle pace of Mediterranean life. After a recent trip to this Balearic island, I felt like sharing a few highlights places and moments that truly stood out and that make Mallorca a perfect destination for a group getaway or an individual escape.
What I loved about Mallorca:
Exploring the island by car
The best way to discover Mallorca is by renting a car. The roads are well maintained, the distances manageable, and having the freedom to stop at a hidden cove or a traditional village whenever you like makes all the difference. It allowed me to explore lesser-known spots at my own pace, without constraints.
The wild coves
Cala Formentor, Cala Santanyi, Cala Figuera… Each one has its own personality, but they all share that same stunning beauty: turquoise water, pine trees, rocky cliffs, and breathtaking landscapes. A special mention for Cala Figuera, still peaceful in May, with its authentic fishing port and stone houses clinging to the rocks — a real Balearic postcard scene.
The road to Cap de Formentor
The Es Colomer viewpoint offers one of the most spectacular views over Mallorca’s northern coast. The drive is dramatic and winding, often shared with cyclists, but reaching the Formentor lighthouse is well worth the effort. A tip: in summer, much of the road is closed to cars and accessible only by shuttle buses. It’s definitely better to go off-season to enjoy the serenity of the place.
Watching dolphins in the wild
From Alcudia, I boarded a small boat with just 12 passengers for an early morning outing at sea. Calm waters, hardly any people, and dolphins swimming freely just a few meters away... it was truly magical. I was glad I chose a small boat instead of a large touristy catamaran — the atmosphere was much more intimate, and we could get closer to the wildlife. On the way back, we sailed past dramatic rock formations and even spotted hidden coves only accessible on foot, like the stunning Platja des Coll Baix.
The vintage train from Palma to Sóller
Yes, it’s touristy… but it’s also incredibly charming. This old wooden train winds through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, offering views of olive groves, tunnels, and breathtaking landscapes. The arrival in Sóller, followed by Port de Sóller, is absolutely worth it. The seafront promenade is lined with restaurants and bars — perfect for sipping a refreshing sangria and soaking in the relaxed coastal vibe.
The hilltop villages of Deià and Valldemossa
A true favorite of mine! These two typical Mallorcan villages, tucked away in the hills, are full of character and authenticity. Deià has a quiet charm and has been a haven for artists for decades. Valldemossa is a bit livelier but equally enchanting, with its flower-filled alleys, stone houses, and terraces overlooking the valley. A little tip: even in May, parking can be tricky. Take your time, enjoy the scenery, and don’t mind walking a bit — that’s also part of the Mallorcan experience.
